Spawn movie news have been slow but until the other day, there was an interview with Todd McFarlane. He mentioned the movie will be “ugly, dark, two hours of movie”.
Back in October, we heard Spawn movie will go into production in March 2019.
In August, it has been confirmed AMC The Walking Dead‘s Greg Nicotero will help design Spawn costume. Greg and Spawn creator Todd McFarlane has been friends for years. Greg worked with the Spawn movie back in 1997. He was in the animatronic creature and special effects department. That movie grossed $87 million worldwide with $40 million production costs.
In July, Jeremy Renner has nabbed the role of Twitch Williams. Twitch is part of the Sam and Twitch team, both NYPD police detectives. Twitch is the brain and Sam is the brawn in this team. Both first appeared in Spawn #1.
In May 2018 Jamie Foxx nabbed the role of Spawn. He stated that he is good friends with Todd McFarlane (creator of Spawn). Todd pitched the idea to all the studios. Only one studio, Blumhouse Production, green lighted his movie with only $10-$12 million budget. Blumhouse produced a lot of low-budget movies like Purge, Get Out, and Paranormal Activity.
With only $10-$12 million for this new Spawn movie, Todd will have a tight budget. Jamie Foxx and Jeremy Renner will need to take a lower salary for this movie to work. This new Spawn movie will not be an origin movie.
Spawn first appeared in Spawn #1 (May 1992) written and drawn by Todd McFarlane. Spawn has superhuman strength, agility, and endurance. He has an immortality to a certain extent. He can teleport, shape shift and resurrect.
